Higanteng jellyfish inanod sa Australia

SINISIKAP ng mga scientist na iklasipika ang bagong species ng “whopper” giant jellyfish na natagpuan sa dalampasigan ng Australia.

Ang 1.5-metre (4ft 11in) specimen ay natagpuan ng isang pamilya sa southern state ng Tasmania, na agad komontak ng local marine biologist.

May nakita nang jellyfish na ka-tulad nito noon, ngunit hindi ganito kalaki at napadako sa tabing dagat, ayon kay Lisa Gershwin, scientist ng government’s Commonwealth Scienti-fic and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO).

“We know about this specimen but it hasn’t been classified yet, it hasn’t been named,” ayon sa scientist na nagsasaliksik tungkol sa jellyfish sa nakaraang 20 taon.

“It is so big it took our breath away.

“It’s a whopper of an animal but it’s not life-threatening, although it does sting.”

Ang unclassified species ay sinasabing kamag-anak ng lion’s mane jellyfish, ang largest known species ng marine animal sa mundo.

Sinabi ni Ms. Gershwin na nagkaroon ng huge jellyfish bloom sa Tasmanian waters sa nakaraang mga buwan.

“It’s so big but we know nothing about it,” pahayag pa ni Ms Gershwin.

“It highlights again how much we still have to learn about the ocean.”

Ang jellyfish ay natagpuan ng Lim family sa dalampasigan sa timog bahagi ng Tasmanian capital Hobart.

Ayon sa inang si Josie: “It blew our minds away.

“It’s not really jellyfish territory here and all we could do was stand back and admire it.” (ORANGE QUIRKY NEWS)
