NOEL CABANGON SINGS
JAMES TAYLOR AND OTHER HITS
Singer-musician Noel Cabangon has undoubtedly made a name for himself in the folk and acoustic genres with socially relevant songs.
From being a shy barrio boy and a member of a church choir when he was in high school in the Northern province of La Union, Noel later performed in a watering hole in Baguio, where he also went to college at St. Louis University.
Since then, getting Manila-bound was the next big thing for Noel. He took up classical guitar lessons at the UP Conservatory of Music under Gerry Duran of Acoustic Jive.
Noel also regularly performed in music joints in Quezon City and Manila. Noel always considers himself as the biggest fan of James Taylor for many years now.
On June 29, Noel will take centerstage in a solo concert at RJ Bistro at Dusit Thani Hotel in Makati City, to sing James Taylor songs. Special guest is Richard Merk, himself a folk singer in the early days of his career.
“James Taylor’s music has greatly influenced me and my music a lot,” Noel said. “His compositions are universal. That’s why I never stop singing his hits in my regular gigs.”
Some of the songs that Noel will sing in the show are The Secret O’Life, Don’t Let Me Be Lonely, Fire and Rain, Shower the People, Up On the Roof, You Can Close Your Eyes.
Noel wants to see the music industry to be vibrant again. “With the advent of new platforms, the playing field has changed significantly and become more challenging,” Noel noted. “The music labels should continue to invest more and engage the creativity of the new and young artists.”
Lola’s Playlist), Joshua Torrino, Joshua Lumbao, Benidict Aboyme.
