DALAWANG bansa na lang — ang Pilipinas at Tsina ang natitira para makuha ang karapatang magdaos ng susunod na World Cup of Basketball ng FIBA na gagawin sa taong 2019.
Ito’y ayon sa four-man FIBA Committee na nagkaroon ng ocular inspection sa mga posibleng venue na gagamitin sa torneo kung mapupunta sa Pilipinas ang pagdaos ng torneo.
“We’re still in the process of putting things together, collating the data and meeting with the officials of different venues because there are still some back-in-the-house requirements that have to be met,” wika ng deputy director ng international affairs ng Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas na si Severino “Butch” Antonio.
Ilan sa mga venue na kung saan gagawin ang mga laro sa World Cup ay ang Smart Araneta Coliseum sa Cubao, Mall of Asia Arena sa Pasay at ang bagong Philippine Arena sa Bulacan.
Ang MOA Arena ay venue ng FIBA Asia Championships na ginanap dito sa bansa noong 2013.
“Under FIBA terms, you need to have press rooms, conference rooms, and VIP rooms. That’s why we have to be careful with our venues,” ani Antonio. “Either they build or dumiskarte na lang sila to be able to accommodate, kasi it’s just a matter of identifying areas which can be used for the different requirements of FIBA.”
Malalaman sa Hunyo kung anong bansa ang magdaraos ng World Cup at hanggang Abril 30 na lang ang pagsumite ng mga dokumento para mag-bid ang Pilipinas para gawin dito ang torneo.
“The SBP has formed different groups to oversee the different aspects of the bid process involving transportation, hotel and accommodation, logistics, among others,” pagtatapos ni Antonio.
